On Friday, 8 April 2016, at night at 23:33, in Šiaulių district municipality, on the Kuršėnai–Mažeikiai national road (kilometre 5), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Nissan Primera, a Wiola - and a Renault Midlum 210. One person died — the 40-year-old driver of the Nissan. Two people were injured — the 32-year-old driver of the Renault (treated as an outpatient) and a 35-year-old passenger of the Renault (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 40-year-old driver of the Nissan (10 years of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations and entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
