On Saturday, 11 June 2016, in the evening at 18:30, in Šakių district municipality, on the Kaunas–Zapyškis–Šakiai national road (kilometre 60.85), a Volkswagen Golf ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 47-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (26 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. She was drunk (3.05‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
