On Wednesday, 17 August 2016, in the afternoon at 16:44, in Plungės district municipality, on the Mažeikiai–Plungė–Tauragė national road, an Opel Vectra hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 50-year-old driver of the Opel (26 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance and failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.73‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
