On Monday, 12 September 2016, in the afternoon at 11:45, in Prienų district municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 24.43), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Scania R 480 registered in Latvia, a General Trailers TX34CW, a Renault Magnum E-Tech 400 and a Schmitz SCS 24 registered in Latvia. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 53-year-old driver of the Scania (30 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (2.79‰ blood alcohol). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
