On Saturday, 24 September 2016, in the afternoon at 14:33, in Mažeikių district municipality, Rupėkių village, on the Mažeikiai–Plungė–Tauragė national road (kilometre 20.13), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved an Audi 80 and an Audi A6. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 41-year-old driver of the Audi 80, who failed to choose a safe speed. He had no driving licence. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA).
