On Tuesday, 11 October 2016, in the morning at around 7:00, in Lazdijų district municipality, on Vytauto street, a Volkswagen Golf hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. One person was injured — a 16-year-old pedestrian (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 30-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (11 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. He fled the scene. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
