On Friday, 9 December 2016, in the evening at 17:31, in Klaipėdos district municipality, on Dariaus ir Girėno street, at the junction with Melioratorių street, a collision while turning left (U-turning) occurred. The collision involved an Opel Zafira and a Volkswagen Touareg. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 61-year-old driver of the Opel (21 years of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations, failed to keep a safe distance and entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (1.77‰ blood alcohol). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was twilight, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
