On Tuesday, 23 May 2017, at night at 23:25, in Prienų district municipality, on the Vilnius–Prienai–Marijampolė main road (kilometre 100.68), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Toyota Avensis and an Opel Signum. Two people were injured — the 26-year-old driver of the Toyota (hospitalized) and the 30-year-old driver of the Opel (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 26-year-old driver of the Toyota (7 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed and entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (1.02‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
