On Monday, 12 June 2017, in the morning at around 9:00, in Klaipėdos district municipality, on the Kaunas–Jurbarkas–Šilutė–Klaipėda national road (kilometre 227), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved a Toyota Corolla Verso, a Lexus LS 600 h and a Volkswagen Passat. Two people were injured — the 51-year-old driver of the Lexus (treated as an outpatient) and the 19-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 62-year-old driver of the Toyota (23 years of driving experience), who failed to comply with road signs or markings, violated overtaking rules and entered the oncoming traffic lane. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
