On Thursday, 14 September 2017, in the evening at 17:08, in Širvintų district municipality, on the Maišiagala–Širvintos regional road, a collision while turning left (U-turning) occurred. The collision involved a Mercedes-Benz Actros and a Volkswagen Multivan. Four people were injured — a 40-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (hospitalized), a 33-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (hospitalized), a 34-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (hospitalized) and the 46-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 24-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (3 years of driving experience), who failed to give way when crossing an intersection. Both drivers were sober.
