On Wednesday, 17 January 2018, in the afternoon at 14:30, in Kauno district municipality, on the Panevėžys–Aristava–Sitkūnai main road (kilometre 85.05), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved a DAF TE85XC registered in Poland, a KEL- Berg registered in Poland, a BMW X6 registered in Latvia, a Scania R 143 registered in Estonia and a trailer/semi-trailer > 10 t. One person was injured — the 53-year-old driver of the Scania (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 30-year-old driver of the DAF (3 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. All drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was snow-covered.
