On Wednesday, 31 January 2018, at night at 3:25, in Kaunas, on Šiaurės pr., at the junction with S. Žukausko street, a BMW 320D hit an obstacle. Three people died — the 21-year-old driver of the BMW (was not wearing a seatbelt), a 20-year-old passenger of the BMW (was not wearing a seatbelt) and a 29-year-old passenger of the BMW (was not wearing a seatbelt). Two people were injured — a 22-year-old passenger of the BMW (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt) and a 23-year-old passenger of the BMW (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt). The accident was caused by the 21-year-old driver of the BMW (2 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.25‰ blood alcohol). A 23-year-old passenger of the BMW was drunk (1.84‰). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
