On Wednesday, 28 March 2018, in the evening at 22:55, in Birštono municipality, on the Vilnius–Prienai–Marijampolė main road (kilometre 83.23), a BMW X5 hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 35-year-old driver of the BMW, who failed to choose a safe speed. He evaded sobriety testing, had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
