On Saturday, 11 August 2018, in the evening at around 22:00, in Šiauliai, on Dubijos street, at the junction with Draugystės pr., a BMW 525 hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. Two people were injured — a 65-year-old pedestrian (hospitalized) and a 59-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 27-year-old driver of the BMW (6 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. He fled the scene. The driver was sober. A 65-year-old pedestrian was drunk (2.13‰). A 59-year-old pedestrian was drunk (2.01‰). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
