On Sunday, 30 September 2018, in the afternoon at 16:55, in Klaipėdos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (d. pusė) main road (kilometre 304.80), a collision with a stationary vehicle occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Multivan registered in Latvia and an Audi A6. One person died — a 20-year-old passenger of the Audi (was not wearing a seatbelt). Four people were injured — the 20-year-old driver of the Audi (hospitalized), a 42-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient), a 20-year-old passenger of the Audi (hospitalized) and a 12-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 39-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (20 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
