On Sunday, 16 December 2018, in the morning at 7:19, in Anykščių district municipality, on the Kaunas–Zarasai–Daugpilis main road (kilometre 99.30), a BMW 525 D ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 29-year-old driver of the BMW (less than a year of driving experience), who fell asleep at the wheel. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, a strong wind was blowing, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
