On Sunday, 16 December 2018, in the afternoon at around 16:00, in Klaipėdos district municipality, on the Kaunas–Jurbarkas–Šilutė–Klaipėda national road (kilometre 206.90), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved an Opel Vectra and a Volkswagen Passat. Five people were injured — the 37-year-old driver of the Opel (hospitalized), a 45-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (hospitalized), a 10-year-old passenger of the Opel (hospitalized), a 2-year-old passenger of the Opel (hospitalized) and the 50-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 37-year-old driver of the Opel (15 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was twilight, it was overcast, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
