On Thursday, 17 January 2019, in the evening at 18:05, in Kauno district municipality, Lapių town, on the Vilijampolė–Žeimiai–Šėta national road (kilometre 7), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved an Opel Astra and a Mercedes-Benz C 200 CDI. Two people were injured — a 8-year-old passenger of the Mercedes-Benz (treated as an outpatient) and the 32-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 48-year-old driver of the Opel (25 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. He was drunk (1.55‰ blood alcohol). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
