On Monday, 20 May 2019, in the afternoon at 11:30, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 47.39), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved an Audi A4, a Toyota, a trailer ≤ 0.75 t and a Mercedes-Benz. One person was injured — the 53-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 65-year-old driver of the Audi (48 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
