On Friday, 26 July 2019, in the evening at 17:20, in Molėtų district municipality, Kanapelkos village, on the Vilnius–Utena main road (kilometre 62.70), a collision while turning left (U-turning) occurred. The collision involved a Toyota and an Opel Vectra Station Wagon. One person died — a 6-year-old passenger of the Opel. Five people were injured — the 21-year-old driver of the Toyota (treated as an outpatient), a 10-year-old passenger of the Opel (severely injured, hospitalized), a 25-year-old passenger of the Toyota (treated as an outpatient), a 22-year-old passenger of the Toyota (hospitalized) and the 32-year-old driver of the Opel (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 21-year-old driver of the Toyota (3 years of driving experience), who failed to give way when crossing an intersection. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
