On Sunday, 27 October 2019, at night at 2:40, in Klaipėdos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (d. pusė) main road (kilometre 299.64), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Mercedes-Benz E320, a BMW and a Volvo S40. One person died — the 41-year-old driver of the Volvo (later died from the injuries). Three people were injured — the 33-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (hospitalized), a 30-year-old passenger of the BMW (hospitalized) and a 22-year-old passenger of the BMW (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 33-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (15 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. He was drunk (1.36‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. A 30-year-old passenger of the BMW was drunk (1.16‰). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 130 km/h.
