On Monday, 16 December 2019, at night at around 4:00, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 44.73), a Toyota Picnic registered in Belarus ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 41-year-old driver of the Toyota (12 years of driving experience), who exceeded the speed set by traffic rules or road signs. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
