On Sunday, 2 February 2020, at night at 23:28, in Kauno district municipality, on the Vilnius–Kaunas–Klaipėda (k. pusė) main road (kilometre 113.20), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Volvo V70 and a Volkswagen Golf. Three people were injured — a 43-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (severely injured, hospitalized), a 52-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (severely injured, hospitalized) and the 28-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 26-year-old driver of the Volvo (8 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.49‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 110 km/h.
