On Sunday, 3 May 2020, in the evening at around 19:00, in Mažeikių district municipality, on Žagarėlės street, at the junction with Algirdo street, a Volvo S80 hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 37-year-old driver of the Volvo, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.24‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. A 21-year-old passenger of the Volvo was drunk (0.72‰). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 30 km/h.
