On Thursday, 16 July 2020, at night at around 23:00, in Šiaulių district municipality, Girelės village, on the Ryga–Šiauliai–Tauragė–Kaliningradas main road (kilometre 45.67), a collision with a stationary vehicle occurred. The collision involved a Mitsubishi Outlander, a Renault Kangoo and a Honda Civic 5DR. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 48-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi (25 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.57‰ blood alcohol). The 24-year-old driver of the Renault had no driving licence. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
