On Wednesday, 19 August 2020, in the evening at 18:30, in Prienų district municipality, on the Vilnius–Prienai–Marijampolė main road (kilometre 106.42), a collision with a stationary vehicle occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Passat Variant, a Krone SDP27 registered in Russia and an Iveco 440E35 registered in Russia. One person died — the 42-year-old driver of the Volkswagen. One person was injured — the 55-year-old driver of the Iveco (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt). The accident was caused by the 42-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (21 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry.
