On Thursday, 2 May 2024, in the evening at 22:30, in Prienų district municipality, on the Vilnius–Prienai–Marijampolė main road (kilometre 105.82), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved an Audi A4, a Belarus 611 and a car. Seven people were injured — the 62-year-old driver of the Audi (hospitalized), a 8-year-old passenger of a car (treated as an outpatient), a 60-year-old passenger of a car (hospitalized), a 52-year-old passenger of the Audi (treated as an outpatient), a 39-year-old passenger of the Audi (treated as an outpatient), a 14-year-old passenger of a car (treated as an outpatient) and the 38-year-old driver of a car (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 62-year-old driver of the Audi, who violated overtaking rules. He was drunk (1.56‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
