On Friday, 11 September 2020, in the morning at 7:20, in Molėtų district municipality, on the Vilnius–Utena main road (kilometre 50.21), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Renault Trafic registered in Ukraine and a Seat Cordoba. Two people died — the 66-year-old driver of the Seat and a 61-year-old passenger of the Seat. Four people were injured — the 46-year-old driver of the Renault (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt), a 38-year-old passenger of the Renault (hospitalized), a 48-year-old passenger of the Renault (hospitalized) and a 41-year-old passenger of the Renault (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 46-year-old driver of the Renault (28 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident there was fog, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
