On Friday, 30 June 2023, in the afternoon at 16:25, in Molėtų district municipality, on the Vilnius–Utena main road (kilometre 51.56), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Toyota, a Volvo XC60, a Neptun and a MAN TGX. Two people died — the 53-year-old driver of the Toyota (was not wearing a seatbelt) and a 30-year-old passenger of the Volvo (later died from the injuries). Two people were injured — the 30-year-old driver of the Volvo (treated as an outpatient) and a 4-year-old passenger of the Volvo (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 53-year-old driver of the Toyota (6 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
