On Wednesday, 27 January 2021, in the morning at 10:15, in Marijampolės municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 61.50), a side collision with neither vehicle turning occurred. The collision involved a Volvo XC90, a DAF FT 105XF460 registered in Latvia, a Mazda 6, a Toyota and a Schmitz SCS24/L 13.62 E P registered in Latvia. One person was injured — the 50-year-old driver of the Toyota (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 45-year-old driver of the Volvo (25 years of driving experience), who failed to give way when crossing an intersection. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident there was freezing rain, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
