On Friday, 29 January 2021, in the afternoon at 12:41, in Marijampolės municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 58.12), on a bridge, a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Scania, a trailer/semi-trailer > 10 t, a Schmitz SCS 24/L, a DAF FT XF105.460, a Volvo registered in Russia and a Wielton registered in Russia. Two people were injured — the 56-year-old driver of the DAF (treated as an outpatient) and the 44-year-old driver of the Volvo (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 44-year-old driver of the Scania (12 years of driving experience), who failed to give way when changing direction. All drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
