On Wednesday, 24 February 2021, in the morning at 7:30, in Zarasų district municipality, on Vilniaus street near No. 19, at the junction with Smėlynės street, a Volkswagen Golf hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 52-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (30 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.27‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. At the time of the accident there was fog, it was overcast, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 40 km/h.
