On Monday, 17 January 2022, in the morning at around 7:00, in Šiaulių district municipality, on the Kuršėnai–Smilgiai–Aukštelkė regional road (kilometre 21), an Opel Astra-F-Caravan ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 29-year-old driver of the Opel (1 year of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
