On Saturday, 29 July 2023, in the afternoon at 16:21, in Šiaulių district municipality, on the Kuršėnai–Smilgiai–Aukštelkė regional road (kilometre 21.31), a collision while turning left (U-turning) occurred. The collision involved a Toyota Corolla Verso and a Mercedes-Benz E320. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 84-year-old driver of the Toyota (18 years of driving experience), who failed to give way when crossing an intersection. Both drivers were sober. The 23-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz had no driving licence. At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
