On Sunday, 6 February 2022, in the evening at 17:40, in Marijampolės municipality, on V. Kudirkos street near No. 2, a BMW 525 D hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. Two people were injured — a 17-year-old pedestrian (hospitalized) and a 18-year-old pedestrian (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 19-year-old driver of the BMW (1 year of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
