On Saturday, 23 April 2022, in the evening at 21:35, in Šakių district municipality, on the Kaunas–Zapyškis–Šakiai national road (kilometre 58.71), a Volkswagen Bora hit an obstacle. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 37-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (12 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. She was drunk (2.34‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
