On Thursday, 4 August 2022, in the afternoon at 13:13, in Švenčionių district municipality, on the Vilnius-Švenčionys-Zarasai national road (kilometre 81.70), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Renault Megane registered in Poland and a Skoda Octavia. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 22-year-old driver of the Renault (5 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. He fled the scene. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry.
