On Sunday, 16 July 2023, in the evening at 20:55, in Utenos district municipality, Vaikutėnų village, on Zarasų street, a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a BMW 5ER Reihe and a Seat Cordoba Vario. Four people were injured — a 14-year-old passenger of the Seat (hospitalized), a 16-year-old passenger of the Seat (hospitalized), the 56-year-old driver of the Seat (hospitalized) and a 16-year-old passenger of the Seat (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 33-year-old driver of the BMW (15 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.47‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
