On Tuesday, 8 August 2023, in the afternoon at around 12:00, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Antakalnis–Jieznas–Alytus–Merkinė national road (kilometre 80), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved an Opel Zafira and an Audi Q5. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 61-year-old driver of the Opel (24 years of driving experience), who exceeded the speed set by traffic rules or road signs. He was drunk (2.16‰ blood alcohol).
