On Sunday, 15 October 2023, at night at around 3:00, in Vilkaviškio district municipality, on the Vilkaviškis–Kudirkos Naumiestis–Šakiai national road (kilometre 7.95), a BMW 530D Xdrive registered in Italy ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 28-year-old driver of the BMW (8 years of driving experience), who exceeded the speed set by traffic rules or road signs. He was drunk (1.22‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident it was dark, a strong wind was blowing, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
