On Saturday, 21 October 2023, in the evening at 22:54, in Marijampolės municipality, Barštinės village, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 46), a Volvo XC90 hit an obstacle. Two people were injured — a 66-year-old passenger of the Volvo (treated as an outpatient) and a 25-year-old passenger of the Volvo (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 25-year-old driver of the Volvo (5 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 130 km/h.
