On Thursday, 23 November 2023, in the morning at 7:37, in Panevėžio district municipality, Rimaisų village, on Rimaisų street, a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a DAF FA 95XF.480 registered in Estonia, a Schmitz registered in Estonia, a trailer/semi-trailer 3.5–10 t, a trailer/semi-trailer 3.5–10 t, a Mercedes-Benz 1840 registered in Poland, a Krone registered in Ukraine, a Volvo VOLVO344 registered in Estonia, a Hyundai, a Hyundai Santa FE registered in Estonia and a MAN MAN19 registered in Ukraine. Four people were injured — the 49-year-old driver of the Hyundai Santa FE (treated as an outpatient), the 63-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz (hospitalized), the 38-year-old driver of the Hyundai (treated as an outpatient) and the 63-year-old driver of the Volvo (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 69-year-old driver of the DAF (42 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. All drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident there was a blizzard, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
