On Saturday, 9 December 2023, in the evening at 21:59, in Kelmės district municipality, on the Užventis–Šaukėnai–Kuršėnai national road (kilometre 4.30), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Mercedes-Benz 315 registered in Norway and a Mercedes-Benz. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 35-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz 315, who entered the oncoming traffic lane. He refused a sobriety test, had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
