On Tuesday, 26 March 2024, in the morning at 10:03, in Zarasų district municipality, on Vytauto street near No. 54, a Peugeot 508 hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person was injured — a 85-year-old pedestrian (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 40-year-old driver of the Peugeot (23 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. He fled the scene. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 20 km/h.
