On Sunday, 7 April 2024, in the evening at 21:05, in Marijampolės municipality, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 54.60), a collision with a stationary vehicle occurred. The collision involved a Scania, a Schmitz Cargobull SKO24, a Schmitz Cargobull and a Renault Magnum. One person died — a 53-year-old passenger of the Scania (was not wearing a seatbelt). The accident was caused by the 38-year-old driver of the Scania (13 years of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 130 km/h.
