On Monday, 24 June 2024, in the evening at 17:21, in Skuodo district municipality, Daujotų village, on the Mažeikiai–Skuodas national road (kilometre 45.97), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Touran and an Opel Meriva. Three people died — the 69-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, a 10-year-old passenger of the Opel (later died from the injuries) and a 5-year-old passenger of the Opel (later died from the injuries). The accident was caused by the 69-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (31 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober.
