On Monday, 24 June 2024, in the evening at 17:21, in Skuodo district municipality, Daujotų village, on the Mažeikiai–Skuodas national road (kilometre 45.97), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Touran and an Opel Meriva. Three people died — the 69-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, a 10-year-old passenger of the Opel (later died from the injuries) and a 5-year-old passenger of the Opel (later died from the injuries). Three people were injured — the 24-year-old driver of the Opel (severely injured, hospitalized), a 8-year-old passenger of the Opel (severely injured, hospitalized) and a 2-year-old passenger of the Opel (severely injured, hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 69-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (31 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
