The accident was caused by the 40-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, who entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk and under the influence of psychoactive substances and had no driving licence. A 14-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen was drunk. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
