On Saturday, 20 July 2024, at night at 1:15, in Anykščių district municipality, Viešintų town, on Vytauto street near No. 1, a Volkswagen Golf registered in France ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 34-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (16 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.86‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
