On Friday, 9 August 2024, in the afternoon at around 15:00, in Kauno city municipality, on the Kaunas–Zarasai–Daugpilis (kelio ruožo su skir. juosta k. pusė) main road (kilometre 178), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Citroen C4 and a Mercedes-Benz. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 39-year-old driver of the Citroen (less than a year of driving experience), who failed to give way when changing direction. She was drunk (2.41‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
