On Thursday, 22 August 2024, in the evening at 20:26, in Panevėžys, on J. Basanavičiaus street, at the junction with Vilniaus street, a collision with a stationary vehicle occurred. The collision involved an Aprilia and a Volkswagen Jetta. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 17-year-old driver of the Aprilia (less than a year of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
